BRISCOE John Clifton, (J.C.), age 82, passed away Nov. 7, 2000. He was born May 18, 1918 in Chickasha, OK to Barney Edward and Nettie McManus. He was a Power Plant Operator, Chief Maintenance Engineer and Asst. Superintendent of Building Maint. for the City of Okla. City, Chief State Boiler & Safety Inspector for the State of OK and Asst. Commissioner of Labor. He was a member of the Nat'l. Board of Boiler Inspectors & Commissioned Inspector, and the conference committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers for 27 years and a professional member emeritus. He was the owner & president of Briscoe Inspection Service, under contract with Exxon Research & Engineering Co., until retirement after 27 years of service. On Jan. 27, 1941 John married Velma Lee Snell in Bethany, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma; his parents; a brother; and sisters Daisy Lee Rogers and Doris "Billie" Layman. He is survived byhis daughter, Sue Clavin & husband Vern, Norman, OK; sons, John Briscoe & wife Ruth, Canadian, OK and Jim Briscoe & wife Deanna, Garfield, AR; brothers-in-law, Prof. Lawrence Snell & wife, Dr. Gladys Snell and Rev. Howard Snell & wife, Evon; grandchildren, Debi Shaw, Tami Clavin, Wes Briscoe, Dawna Briscoe-Land, Jana Belcher, David Briscoe, and Jennifer Long, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene, with interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
