Funeral services for J. D. Davenport, 57, were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Crabtree officiating. Davenport died March 7 after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.
Davenport was born at Morse, the son of Alto Davenport and the former Ethel Stephens. He attended Okemah Schools and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the United States Army. He had been employed for the past 38 years with Okemah Lumber Company and was currently working there as assistant manager. Davenport was married to Miss Patsy Sue Henderson at Weleetka Oct. 17, 1953, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Patsy Davenport, of the home; two sons, Steve Davenport, Pryor, and Michael Davenport, Okemah; his father, Alto Davenport, Okemah; one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Lambert, Abilene, Texas, and one grandson, Joseph Dewayne Davenport, Okemah.
Pallbearers were Jr. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Clyde Williamson, Arvin Casey, Coy Moore and Tim Johnson.
Interment was in the Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
