George Charles Howard

Former Shawnee resident George Charles Howard died Sunday in his Tulsa home at the age of 59.

He was born Feb. 16, 1942, in Nowata to George and Ida Martha Mock Howard, and lived in Nowata for a while. He began his education in Coffeyville, Kan., then moved to Shawnee in 1951.

Howard, a graduate of Shawnee High School, was also a graduate of Central State University in Edmond.

He was married to Gail J. Stover in San Antonio, Texas.

He was an accountant for the federal government until retirement. He had lived in Chicago, Ill., for 25 years. In March, he moved to Tulsa.

Howard was a member of the Catholic church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, brother James Edward Howard, and sister Margaret Ann Lewis.

Survivors include his stepson, Jimmy Perdue of Dale, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn Louise Howard of Nowata and Linda Joann Stellway of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two step-grandchidlren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Catherine Catholic Church in Nowata. Father W.K. Skeehan will officiate. The Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday at Benjamin Funeral Chapel in Nowata. Burial will be in Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery .
