Charles Loyd Hicks passed away July 10, 2012. He had resided in the Heritage Villa Nursing Home in Bartlesville, OK since January 2012. Loyd would have been 95 years old in August.

Loyd was born on August 20, 1917 in the Childers area, Nowata County, OK. He attended the Childers school and graduated Valedictorian 1935. Loyd married Bernice N. Plecker of Nowata June 17, 1939 in Nowata. They lived in the Nowata area until 1964, in Tulsa until 1991 and in Bartlesville until present.

Loyd was active in the First Baptist Church in Nowata serving as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, treasurer and Deacon. He also served as Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church in Tulsa. Loyd worked his entire career in the oil fields of Nowata and Creek Counties.

Preceding Loyd in death were an infant daughter in 1940, his parents Dora E. Thronbrugh and Charles A. Hicks, 4 brothers, daughter-in-law Jamee Hicks, and Bernice, his wife of 71 years.

Loyd is survived by two sons, Kenneth L. Hicks of Nowata and Glen E. Hicks and his wife, Diane, of Borger, TX, three grandchildren, Dustin D. Hicks of Nowata and companion, Stacy, Stephen E. Hicks and wife, Sara, of Bentonville, AR, and Glen T. Hicks of Coraopolis, PA, one great grandchild, Emily Hicks and a cousin/brother-in-law, Thomas Clemons, age 99, of Claremore Veterans Nursing Home and many loving nieces and nephews. For many years Loyd was loved and supported by wonderful, caring friends in his neighborhood.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 16, 2012 at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata officiated by Loyd's nephew, Pastor Phil Rohrer. Burial will follow at the Nowata Cemetery.
