Betty Lou Atwood, 76, of Delaware, Oklahoma, died Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Betty was born November 5, 1943 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to parents Fount and Katherine (Holmes)Smith. She was a graduate of Haworth High School.
She married Emmett Earl Atwood on January 26, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2017. The couple owned and operated Homes by Betty, land development, tractor services and investment property services. She also worked as a real estate agent/broker. She was also a homemaker and cared for her children plus many other “adopted” children.
Betty was always by Emmett’s side in every adventure, from building houses, working the farm, riding horses and traveling their favorite Talimena Drive to go back home. She was the ultimate “fan” of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the Oologah Mustangs and cheered from the stands for many a grandkid. She supported them through Boy Scouts, Cheerleading, softball, basketball, football, band and choir. You would often find Betty watching the deer on the farm, sitting at the cemetery to be with Dad doing her puzzle books and calling her kids, before 7pm, of course, because everyone knew that is when her mother would be calling her.
She was a wife, mom, Nannie, believer in Christ, and ALL of the family’s biggest fan!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Atwood; father Fount and son James Glynn Atwood; grandson Richard Lee Morgan; stepfathers Bill Long and Jessie Smith and brothers Fred, Rick and David Smith.

Betty is survived by her mother Kathryn; children Rick Atwood and companion Kim, Mary Morgan and husband Richard, Jerry Atwood and companion Tara Dymon and Denise Vance and husband Bryan; siblings Jerry, Kenny McMennamy, Rev. Doyle Long, Dalton Long, Jamie, Nancy, Curt Smith; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 9am to 6pm at Stumpff Nowata Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:30am at Harbor Church in Oologah with interment to follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Community Action Resource in Nowata, Oklahoma or the Oologah School Athletic Department.

We love you Mom! Tell Dad that we miss him!
