The funeral for Thelma F. Holmes, 91, who died Nov 27, 1991, at the Garber Nursing Home after a period of ill health, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Christian Church in Garber. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery at Billings under direction of Garber Funeral Home.
The casket will be open at the funeral home until noon Sunday, then at the church until service time.
She was born Nov. 14, 1900, in Billings to Jens and Anna Belle Prather Breinholt and attended Prep School. After graduation, she attended Oklahoma A&M University at Stillwater. On May 20, 1920, she married John Quincy Holmes at Billings where they lived until 1943 when they moved to Marshall. In 1951, they moved to Enid and she worked for Evans Drug Stores. In 1956 they moved to Garber and bought the Jackson Hotel which they operated for several years. He died July 13, 1975.
Mrs. Holmes was a charter member of Billings Christian Church and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star as well as several garden clubs. She also was a member of the bridge and canasta clubs in Garber and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters, Anabel Askey of Houston, Texas; Ellen Kingery of Enid; and Linda Bray of Del City; one sister, Gladys Dierlam of Galveston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, one sister and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Garber Emergency Medical Service (GEMS).
