Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Billings Christian Church for Mrs. Charles (Irene) Owens, 81, last surviving charter member of the church, who died Friday afternoon (Dec. 2, 1966) in Enid Memorial hospital following a long illness.
Rev. Jere' Wells, minister of the church, officiated at last rites and burial was in Union Cemetery under direction of Anderson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Owens suffered a stroke at her home last Wednesday and was taken to the Enid hopital. She had been ill from the effects of another stroke suffered 10 years ago.
She was born in Vermont, Ill., and moved with her parents in 1890 to South Haven, Kan. At the opening of the Cherokee Strip Sept 16, 1893, they settled on a farm one mile north of Billings.
Mr. and Mrs. Owens were married June 4, 1911, and established a home in Billings, where she resided at the time of her death.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include a son, Fred, Wichita; three daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Charleen) Mooney, Wichita; Mrs. Dorotha Lewis, Sacramento, Calif.; and Mrs. John (Virginia) Moncrief, Enid; a sister, Mrs. Joe Danford, Billings and two brothers, Quincy Holmes, Garber; and Max Holmes, Oregon.
