Max Schaffer,  one of Noble county's pioneer settlers at his home 13 1/2 miles northwest of Perry after a lingering illness being due to tumorous cancer of the stomach . He suffered over a year and all that could have made him well was done but neither medical skill , nor careful nursing could stay the grim reaper and on Tuesday, September 14th, he quietly and peacefully passed away surrounded by his wife and children .

Mr. Schaffer was born in Germany October 7, 1861, and came to this country when a lad of 14 years he grew to manhood in Iowa , later going West and spent a number of years in Texas, Washington and Arizona . He was married in 1892 to Anna Sommers,  at Stanton Texas and the following year came to Oklahoma at the strip opening,  made the run and staked the claim west of Polo, which had been his home until death claimed him. Like all pioneer settlers he experienced many hard and trying times , but determination helped him overcome all the trials and hardships of the early days

On Friday morning, September 17, the body was taken to Perry for the funeral services and laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery west of Perry followed by all the family and every one of the older settlers in the neighborhood as well as a large number of friends from other places.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife,  two sons and four daughters, three brothers and a sister and a large number of relatives and friends.

He was a true and faithful husband to his wife, a good father to his children, and a good friend to his neighbors , always prompt in the discharge of his obligations and ready to help in time of need.  May he rest in peace
