The funeral for Donald L. "Sonny" Stoddard, 79, of Perry, will be 2 p.m. today, June 22, 2009, at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel, Perry. Robby Robbins, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Perry to Leland Lewellan and Lena Ethel Jones Stoddard and died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Guthrie.

He graduated from Perry High School in 1951. He was a poet and was published in the New Millennium Poets Book in 2002. He researched and maintained records of Perry and Oklahoma history.

Surviving are one daughter, Gayla Meshew of Guthrie; two sisters, Lois Shaw of Talihina and Betty Rudd of Tonkawa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter and two brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, 1010 N. 7th, Perry, OK 73077, to Cherokee Strip Historical Society.
