May 8, 1927 - Apr 20, 2013

Posted by Jo Aguirre

Rita Evangeline Nida passed from this life into her Heavenly Life on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Rita was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma on May 8, 1927 to Rita May Newman and Edward Sanabria. Rita attended elementary school at Chilocco Schools and White Eagle schools while her family lived near Newkirk and her grandfather worked for Santa Fe Railroad. She later attended school in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Rita was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Perry and valued her dear, long-time friends from the church.
Rita spent most of her years raising her children, but also worked as a nursing assistant for many years at both Perry Nursing Home and Green Valley Nursing Home. Rita, being the ultimate caregiver, aspired to do more for her family and her patients, and at the age of 58, entered the LPN program at Meridian VoTech, and graduated with her LPN degree at the age of 59.

Rita was the proud and loving mother of nine children, Shirley Jean Johnson Rutherford, Barbara Johnson Summerall (Steve), Dr. Ronald W. Nida, Shari Goley (Gene), Annette Wertzberger (Ken), Robert "Bob" Nida, Judy Goin (Jim), Mike Nida, and Carl Nida (Roseann). Rita had 16 grandchildren: Brenda Rutherford Barby, Kimberly Rutherford Barnett, Aaron Rutherford, Sean Summerall, Valerie Musick Barnett, Rhonda McCurry, Rebecca O'Kelley, Chad Goley, Grant Goley, Carmen Myers, Alicia Dale, Alana Nida, Allison Castleberry, Michelle Nida, Tyler Nida, and Taylor Nida. Rita had 31 great-grandchildren, including Baby Lily O’Kelley due June 16, 2013.

Rita was preceded in death by husband Wayne W. Nida in 1984, by husband Kenneth Edgar in 2006, by brother, Edward Sanabria, Jr. in 2005, by daughter Shirley Jean Johnson Rutherford in 2008, and by brother, Francis Sanabria in 2013.

In her later years, Rita's care giving nature was transferred to the four-legged variety, her beloved dog Rusty, and six lucky neighborhood stray cats who became pets.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Noble County P.A.W.S. with the donation to go toward spaying and neutering of cats. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and graveside services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., at Grace Hill Cemetery Pavilion in Perry, Oklahoma.

A public viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013, with family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guest book at www.perrycares.com or on facebook at www.facebook.com/pmcfh
