GARBER A graveside service for James Marion Adkins, 81, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry. The Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Arrangements are by Dugger Funeral Home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1921, on the family farm east of Garber to Harry and Mona Abrams Adkins, and died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
He attended Elkhorn school, later moving to Hayward where he attended Hayward school.
He served with the Army during World War II. He was in the Quartermaster Corps during the invasion of Europe and served in the infantry during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theatre Ribbon, Silver Service Star and American Theatre Ribbon.
Following the war he made his home in Garber where he married Joan Hartung Jan. 10, 1948. He worked at S&S Grocery, managed a service station and worked in construction. They later moved to Enid, where he worked at Pillsbury Mills until 1958, when he began farming near Mulhall. In 1961 they moved to the family farm near Garber.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; a son, L. Dale Adkins of Enid; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Fern Hise of Perry, and Madge Williamson of Enid; and four brothers, Harry L. of Perry, Clifton of Enid, Gary of Hobart, and Elroy of Kyle, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Handicapped, with the funeral home acting as custodian of the fund.
