Graveside services for Charles Bennett Shelton, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fairview Cemetery, south of Perry. The Rev. Mike Brannon will officiate. Arrangements are by Strode Funeral Home. Stillwater.
He was born May 6, 1917, in Hayward to George Lewis “Judd” and Laura Ives Griggs Shelton and died Tuesday September 14, 1993, at the Baptist Medical Center , Oklahoma City. He attended Red Rock School as well as various other rural schools, then worked on the family farm until 1934 when he enlisted in the U. S. Army (Cavalry). In 1940, he married Sharlet Petters. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to Perry and worked for A. L. Smith Trucking Co.
He married Mary Allcy Manley April 11, 1946. She preceded him in death. In 1967, he moved back to Perry to work for his brother. In 1973, he purchased the Shelton Mobile Home Moving in Stillwater, which he still owned.
Surviving are two sons, Ken Ray “Tex” of Perry and Clifford Leroy “Butch” of Tyler Texas; three daughters Sara Ann Hines of Long Beach CA , Ruby Benita Engel of Goodyear AZ, and Barbara Shelton of Perry; two brothers Clyde of Enid and Otis “Duke” of Perry; three sisters Ida Fay Gottfried and Lola Shelton of Perry and Ada Ruth Gottfried of Stillwater; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
