The funeral for Velma Urania Salter, 98, of Perry, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dugger Funeral Home Chapel, Tonkawa. Burial will be 3:45 p.m. in Union Cemetery, Billings. Arrangements are by Dugger Funeral Home, Ton-kawa.

She was born March 30, 1908, in Argonia, Kan., to William Stewart and Sarah Elizabeth French Hogan and died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Perry Memorial Hospital, Perry.

She graduated from Wakita High School in 1926.
She married Harold G. McKeown Sr. April 5, 1929, in Newkirk. They moved from Billings to Newkirk in 1935. He died March 30, 1943.

She worked as a cashier in food stores in Billings 10 years. She married Barney J. Salter May 26, 1948, in Billings. They moved to Tonkawa in 1953. He died Feb. 20, 1969. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tonkawa, Mary Martha Sunday school class and served as class treasurer. She was a former member of American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are three sons, Harold G. McKeown of Tulare, Calif., Jerry H. McKeown of Billings and Daryl L. McKeown of Norman; one daughter, Kathleen McKeown Pickens of Enid; one stepdaughter, Juanita Hapeman of Dallas; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
