Lila (Garrett) Rogers

March 29, 1937 - May 31, 2007

Lila Garrett Rogers, 70, of Muskogee, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007. She was born March 29, 1937 to Arthur Lee and Lila Mae (Pittman) Garrett in Waco, Texas where she grew up. Lila moved with her family to Muskogee where she graduated from Central High School in 1955.

After graduation, she served two years in the U. S. Air Force. She was stationed in Indiana and Wyoming. In 1957, Lila and William Telford Kent, II married in San Antonio, Texas. She moved from San Antonio to California and Idaho before returning to Muskogee in 1977. Lila and Vernon Rogers married in 1985 at Muskogee. She worked as secretary at Ketcham Lumber Co. and Lane Pearce Lumber Co. She loved to read and work in the yard. She was a member of the Elks Lodge, BPOE, where she served as Chaplain.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Lee Garrett and Lila Mae Garrett Dawson.

 She is survived by her husband, Vernon Rogers, of Muskogee; five children and their spouses, Doenye and Paul Essary, of Houston, Texas, LaDonna and Doug Diebold, of Ft. Gibson, Bill and Darcy Kent, Jeff and Lisa Kent, and Janie and Rick Sherrell, all of Muskogee; one sister and brother-in-law, Gene and Tom Tinnin, of Ft. Gibson; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Smith and Tom Tinnin officiating.

Interment will follow in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Oscar Field, David Abel, Bill Jarrard, Mike Kummers, Duane Pickle, and Harold Stockton.

Friends may wish to make memorials in Lila’s name to JMEA Ukraine Ministries, 4624 Farm Rd. 2495, Athens, TX 75752. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
