David M. Rogers III

David M. Rogers III
September 12, 1935 ~ December 16, 2019

David Mitchell Rogers III, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019 at home. He was born on September 12, 1935 to David Mitchell Rogers Jr and Maudie Marie (Lindsey) Rogers in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oktaha High School in 1954 and attended Northeastern State College for one year.

David married the love of his life, Sue Cunningham on December 1, 1956; welcoming their first child, Mitch, in 1957.
He joined the United States Army in 1958, serving with the 82nd Infantry Division and being stationed in Germany during his service. He received an honorable discharge in 1962.

David and Sue welcomed their second child, Donna, in 1962.

He worked at Container Corporation of America until retiring in 1980. He continued to work as a welder until his final retirement.

David enjoyed being a master flint knapper, and hand carving shorebirds and duck decoys. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports; baseball, basketball, and football. His love of sports started with the opportunity to play professional baseball. David was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, trapping, fishing, and making many trips to Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bunk and Maudie Rogers; his brother, Bill Rogers; and his daughter, Donna Rogers.

David is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue, of the home; son, Mitch Rogers and wife Kim; grandchildren, Joshua Rogers and wife Ashley, April Edgmon and husband Bryan, Amber Cox and husband Jason, Ashley Currie and husband Jon; great-grandchildren, Kabree Perry and husband Hayden, Cage Edgmon, Chloe Rogers, Ty Mullen, Ayden Cox, Trinity Mullen, Cole Rogers, Katelynn Currie, Cale Cox, Kimber Currie, and Journee Edgmon; siblings, Mary Barnes, Jimmie Rogers and wife Barbara, Freddie Rogers and wife Linda, and Frances Belichick and husband Ron; sister-in-law, Carol Rogers; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

David's life will be celebrated at 2PM, Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Keefeton Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Barks officiating. Interment will follow at Agnew Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joshua Rogers, Bryan Edgmon, Jason Cox, Jon Currie, Hayden Perry, Cage Edgmon, Ayden Cox, Cole Rogers, Cale Cox, and Ty Mullen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Don Moran, Chuck Jordan, Kenneth Lindsey, Donald "Nub" Scott, Don Mason, and Rance Reynolds.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1380 N York Street, Muskogee, OK. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
