Peggy Jane (Hottel) Strom

Peggy Jane (Hottel) Strom, 88, of Norman, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017.

She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and her family was a very important part of her life. She was born September 22, 1929 in Stratford, OK to Robert Emanuel Hottel and Julia Dulworth Hottel. She grew up with her brothers and sisters on the family farm northeast of Davis, happy and free of worry. She graduated from Davis High School in 1947 where she actively participated in the basketball program. After graduation, she was employed by Southwestern Bell rapidly advancing to the supervisory position, receiving 7 promotions in 8 years. At that time, she decided to pursue her dream in education, returning to the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1957. Upon graduation, she taught school in Hobbs, New Mexico, where she met her future husband, Roy Strom, an engineer with Shell Oil. They moved several times, eventually settling in New Orleans where they lived for 26 years. She taught school in the New Orleans Public School System and obtained an advanced degree from the University of New Orleans. She finished her career working in the gifted and talented program. Three sons, James, Jonathan, and Adam, were born in New Mexico and Texas, and grew up in New Orleans. Upon retiring, Peggy and her husband moved to Norman, OK in 1995. She participated in several organizations which she enjoyed, including Pleasant Valley Extension Club and PEO. She was also active in her church. Hobbies included reading, gardening and she was known for her blue ribbon angel food cake and peanut brittle.

Peggy was preceded in death by her son Jonathan, her parents, and brothers, Rex and Charles Hottel.

She is survived by her husband; sons, James and Adam; grandchildren, Rachel, Allison, Jacqueline, and Patrick; aunts, Susie and Annie Bea; uncle, Hughes; sisters, Bobby Sue, Doris, and Sally; brother, Bruce; and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Visitation will be 2pm-8pm on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. in Norman. Services will be held at 10am on Monday, October 30, 2017, at University Lutheran Church, 914 Elm Ave. in Norman. (Parking is in the back of the church, off of College Ave.)

Interment will follow the services and will be held at 2pm at Greenhill Cemetery in Davis, OK.

Memorials may be made in memory of Peggy to the Norman Public Library.
