BIRT
Funeral service for William Thomas BIRT, 83 year old widely known Westville resident who died at his home Saturday, May 8, after a long illness, was conducted Tuesday afternoon, May 11, from the First Baptist church, with Rev. E.E. STOCKWELL, pastor, officiating.
Mr. BIRT was born February 14, 1871, in Fannin County, Texas. He came to Westville with his family from Chandler, Okla., in 1937, and has resided here since.
Burial was in the Westville Cemetery with Rev. HARDY, Oscar SMITH, Albert SIMPSON, Cy REED, Frank GROOMS and Bill TULLIS as pallbearers, with Roberts Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Paul CARRINGTON and Mrs. Carl ISHMAEL, sang with Mrs. E.E. STOCKWELL at the piano.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Katie BIRT; seven sons, Walter BIRT of Lovington, New Mexico, Tom BIRT, of Ventura, Calif., Bill BIRT of Midland, Texas, Jim BIRT of Coleman, Texas, Roy BIRT of Lamar, Mo., Dale BIRT of Duncan, Okla., and Robert BIRT of Westville; two daughters Mrs. Zella LUTTRELL and Mrs. Bessie CUNNINGHAM both of Westville; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
FOWLER
Funeral service for Mrs. Nettie Ilo FOWLER 40, who lived south of Westville on Hwy. 59 and who died Thursday, May 13, enroute to the Stilwell hospital, was conducted Saturday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bud LACY officiating. Rev. Charley COOK, pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness church, together with the Lacy children, with Sharon COOK at the piano, furnished the music.
Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. FOWLER was born October 29, 1913, in the Weddington community.
Survivors include the husband, Charles FOWLER; ten daughters, Mrs. Haskell MORRIS, Pine Hurst, Idaho, Mrs. Omer BRISENDINE, LaMar, Colo., Mrs. Glen BURRIS, Westville, Mrs. Willis KELPATRICK, Wichita, Kansas, Leora, Edna Mae, Cordie Ann, Barbara Jean, Panlette, (i.e.) Janet Marie, and one son, Donald Jackson, all of the home; two sisters, Mrs. C.C. HEUSTIS, Baron, and Mrs. Alan YOUNGBOOOD of the All Spring community; and seven grandchildren.

DUDLEY
Funeral service was held for Frank F. DUDLEY, 76 years old, Monday, May 31, at the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. W.M. ISAACS, pastor of the Central Baptist church, officiating at the service.
Mr. DUDLEY was born in Augusta, Georgia, July 22, 1878.
He is survived by one brother, J.R. DUDLEY of Stilwell; two daughters, Mrs. B.F. DICKSON of Tulsa, and Tressa DUDLEY of Stilwell; two sons, Robert DUDLEY of Herlong, Calif., and Norman DUDLEY of Arizona, and six grandchildren.
Burial was in the Paden Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.
THORNTON
Earl THORNTON Jr., nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie PHILLIPS of Stilwell, was among the 91 persons killed in the explosion aboard the aircraft carrier Bennington, Wednesday, May 27, one of the worst peacetime disasters in the United States Navy history.
THORNTON was the son of Earl THORNTON Sr., who was in Stilwell visiting his half brothers, Johnnie and Clyde PHILLIPS, at the time of the explosion. He left Stilwell immediately for Charleston, South Carolina, where his son's wife, Mrs. Alice May THORNTON, resides.
THORNTON Jr., was born in Bentonville, Arkansas, and was reared in Missouri and Colorado. He had visited frequently here in Stilwell. He lacked only three years in the Navy before retiring.
He is survived by his father, Earl THORNTON Sr.; one sister Mrs. Mark RADAVICH of Denver, Colo.; and one brother, James W. THRONTON of Deuarte, Calif.
Burial will be in New Orleans, but arrangements are incomplete.

ATCHLEY
Judson Searle ATCHLEY, born May 21, 1869, died July 13, 1954.
He was the son of Clayborne A. and Rhoda LONG ATCHLEY.
He married Mary F. MATHIS of Leslie, Ark., who passed away March 20, 1900.
To this union one child was born, Mrs. Rhoda B. BARBER of Yucaipa, Calif.
He married Millie A. WALKER, August 31, 1901, at Boxley, Ark., and to this union seven children were born: Clarence J., of Stilwell, Okla., Leslie O., Sacramento Calif., Robert C., Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Frieda E. LEE, Los Angeles, Calif., Reid K., Roswell, New Mexico, Mrs. Linnie M. RIDER, Outlook, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Daisy D. HEWIN of Pontotoc, Mississippi.
He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge of Parthenon, Ark., and was voted a life-time honorary member.
He joined the Baptist Church at Walnut Grove, Ark., near Harrison, Ark., in October, 1844.
He lived a devoted Christian life.
A very impressive funeral services were conducted at the Roberts Funeral Chapel here Friday, July 16, 1954, by Rev. Stilman WHITELEY of Summers, Ark., for Judson Searle ATCHLEY, who passed away Tuesday, July 13, 1954, after several months of illness.
Honorable Judge E.G. CARROLL of Stilwell, Okla., devoted friend of the deceased, delivered the farewell address. Song service was conducted by Rev. Ross O'NEAL's quartette, composed of Dave O'NEAL, Mrs. J.D. BRIGGS, and Bob HILL. The following songs were rendered, "We Will Sing With Those We Love," composed by J.S. ATCHLEY in 1926, "Take My Hand Precious Lord," "Amazing Grace," and "If We Never Meet Again."
He is survived by twenty grandchildren, included in this group are: Jack E. RIDER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. RIDER, serving with the U.S. Airborne Division in Japan; Gary M. ATCHLEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie O. ATCHLEY, serving with the U.S. Army in Germany. He is also survived by four great grandchildren and many friends and relatives to share in this great loss.
BLACKWELL
Funeral service for T.P. BLACKWELL, 94 years old, who died July 15, was held at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, July 16 with Bro. Jack STEELE, minister of the First Christian Church, officiating.
Mr. Blackwell was born June 18, 1860.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. W.O. DANDRIDGE of Stilwell, and Mrs. Henry MCNEAL of Tahlequah; 11 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.
Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
MCCALEB
Funeral service for Mrs. Edna L. MCCALEB, 71 years old, wife of J.D. MCCALEB, was held Sunday, July 18, at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jack STEELE, minister of the First Christian Church, officiating.
Mrs. MCCALEB was born October 24, 1832 at Evansville, Ark.
She died Friday, July 16.
Besides her husband, survivors include a brother, Jess SHIELDS of Afton, and a sister Pearl MICKEL of Kansas.
Burial was at New Hope Cemetery.
ADAIR
Graveside funeral service for Stan Watie ADAIR, who died Saturday, July 17, was held Monday at Chuculate Cemetery, with Bro. Tommy Thompson of Tahlequah, officiating.
He is survived by his wife and several children.
Roberts Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
No other information could be obtained.
MAPLES
Word has been received in Stilwell of the death of Mrs. Ida MAPLES of Sand Springs, Okla.
Mrs. MAPLES was a sister of J.S. ATCHLEY, who funeral was held last Friday, and she had been a frequent visitor in Stilwell.
Mrs. MAPLES, 76 years old, died Monday in a Tulsa hospital of a cerebral hemmorrhage.
She had been ill a week. She was a member of the Baptist church.
She is survived by a son, Silas, and two daughters, Miss Blanch MAPLES and Miss Martha MAPLES.
Funeral service was held yesterday in the Broadway Baptist church at Sand Springs, with burial at Woodland Cemetery.
MATTHEWS
Funeral service for James Rufus MATTHEWS, 42 years old, who died at Tulsa last Thursday from injuries, was held Sunday at Zion.
Mr. MATTHEWS was born October 7, 1911.
Burial was in Zion Cemetery with Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. "Doc" MATTHEWS of Stilwell is a brother.
Mr. MATTHEWS was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors are his father, Tom MATTHEWS of Stilwell; five brothers, Henry of Haskell, Okla., George and Roy of Colorado, Amos of Tahlequah, and Dock of Stilwell; and two sisters, Parlee JOHNSON of Stone Bluff, Okla., and Nora Wright of Butte, Montana.
WHEELER
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha WHEELER, 82 years old, who died Saturday, July 17, was held at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday, July 20 with Bro. Leonard STEWART officiating.
Mrs. WHEELER is survived by a sister, Mrs. Drene WATKINS of Stilwell; three sons, Len and Charley of Stilwell, and John of Mountainburg, Ark.; four daughters, Mrs. Minnie BRANNON of Stilwell, Mrs. Jeannie CREEKMORE of Tulsa, Mrs. Grace FRANCE of Fort Smith, Ark., and Mrs. Cleo BRANNON of Little Rock, Ark., 28 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.
Burial was at Chalk Bluff with Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
SMITH
George G. SMITH, widely known in Masonic circles, yesterday was buried in New Hope Cemetery in Stilwell.
Mr. SMITH, a resident of Fort Smith, Ark., took his own life in a Fort Smith hospital Monday, July 19. He was 84 years old.
Intimate friends said Mr. SMITH had been suffering an incurable ailment for a number of years.
He was a member of Belle Point Lodge No. 20; was past high priest of Velle Vue chapter Royal Arch Masons; past commander of Jacques DeMolay commandery, Knights Templar; a member of both Shrine and Grotto, and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He retired from active railroading a number of years ago.
He is survived by a son, Van C. SMITH, Tulsa; a granddaughter, Mrs. Glenn FRISBY, Oklahoma City, and several sisters. Mrs. Minnie KELLER of Stilwell is a sister-in-law of Mr. SMITH.

HAWES
Funeral service for Everett HAWES, 81 year old retired rural mail carrier, who died Friday, July 23, was held Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, with Jack STEELE, minister of the First Christian Church, officiating.
Mr. HAWES was born September 5, 1872, near Osage Mission, Kansas.
His early life was spent there and in California.
He returned to Kansas and attended Emporia Teachers College, from which he was graduated.
He taught school for a time in Kansas and Oklahoma, then entered the publishing business at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He owned a newspaper at Fayetteville for several years, moved to Tahlequah and operated a paper there.
In 1913 he came to Stilwell and was publisher of the Republican for a time before entering the postal service.
Mr. HAWES was a member of the Christian church, and was a member in good standing for a number of years of the Modern Woodmen of American, Camp 10917.
He lived in retirement for the last several years at his home in northwest Stilwell.
Mr. HAWES is survived by his two sons, Donnell of Stilwell, and Julian of Oklahoma City.
His body was taken to Tulsa for cremation.
FIELDS
Death late Tuesday claimed the life of Andrew Johnson FIELDS at his home in Stilwell, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts Chapel, with Bro. Arthur ESSARY and Bro. Wayne BATEMAN, officiating.
Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. FIELDS was born in the Indian Territory, now Adair County, Oklahoma, August 3, 1865 and was 84 years, five months and 28 days of age.
He was a member of the Stilwell Holiness church.
He was married to Ollie Mae CARSON in 1892 and to this union ten children were born, three of whom preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of the home and the following children: John and Ira FIELDS, Mrs. Opal STILLWELL and Mrs. Izola GUFFEY all of Stilwell; Ben and Clarence FIELDS of Fowler, Calif., and George of Sunnyside, Wash., all of whom will attend the funeral, and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren
SELF
Funeral service for Mrs. Matilda SELF, 86 year old Vian resident who died Sunday, July 18, at a Sallisaw hospital, was held Monday, July 19, at Sallisaw with Rev. Ned FORMAN officiating.
Burial was in Sallisaw.
Mrs. SELF was a sister of Mrs. Mary THOMAS of Stilwell. Mrs. SELF is survived by two other sisters, Mrs. Letha HOWELL of Catoosa, and Mrs. Kitsie PATRICK of Ozar, Ark.
DOUGHERTY
Word of the death of W.D. DOUGHERTY, formerly of Stilwell, was received Monday by his cousin Bob DOUGHERTY.
Funeral arrangements will be made in Nowata.
No other information could be obtained.
BRANNON
Funeral service for Burney Dee BRANNON, 20 years old who died July 24, at Harper, Kansas, will be held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Spade Mission Church with Rev. Leonard STEWART officiating.
Roberts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
BRANNON is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. BRANNON; three brothers, J.T., L.D., and Preston, all of Stilwell; six sisters, Maxine CALDWELL, Silias, Calif., Erma Dean YORK, Pittsburg, Calif.; Rema Jewell PETREE, Modesto, Calif.; and Darlene, Judy Sue and Aleeda of the home.

DUDLEY
Funeral service for Bobby Junior DUDLEY, 26 years old, who was killed November 8, will be held today at Roberts Funeral Chapel. Wayne BATEMAN and Minister Jack STEELE of the Christian Church will officiate.
Mr. DUDLEY was born July 24, 1928.
He was killed in a car accident at Wichita, Kansas, November 8. He is survived by his wife, Loretta of the home.
Pallbearers will be: Joe Merle PATTERSON, Young Bill CHAMBERS, Robert DORNBRACK, Hershal Ray POOR, Doyle WINCHESTER, and Billy Joe GOODWIN. Flower bearers will be Ollie PATTERSON, Jewell PRUITT, Mary Ann WINCHESTER, Pauline CROZIER, Violet GORE, and Beverly GOODWIN.
Burial will be in Stilwell Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
