Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Willow Wild Cemetery in
Bonham. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial
Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street.
Mr. Chapman was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Soper, Okla., the second of four
children born to Eli Ferd and Lila Culberson Chapman. He married Oveda
Allen in April 1969.
His early years were spent in Oklahoma until the family moved to Texas City in
1941. He graduated from Texas City High School in 1950 and attended
Abilene Christian College.
He honorably served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as
an aircraft electrician and retired from Collins/Rockwell, a Boeing subsidiary, in
1988.
He has resided at Farris for a number of years prior to moving to Amarillo in
1998. He accepted Christ as a young man and worshiped at Central Church of
Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife in March 1999.
Survivors include two sisters, Melba Jean Nessler and husband, Carl, of Texas
City and Lou Hamby and husband, Norman, of Yuba, Okla.; a brother, Wayne
Chapman and wife, Monika, of Amarillo; a stepson, Jimmy Don Allen and wife,
Marietta, of Ferris; three grandchildren, Melinda Hope and husband, Mark,
Melissa Wooley and husband, Matt, and Donna Ballantone and husband, Paul,
all of Ferris; his especially loved great-granddaughter, Mariah Hope of Ferris;
and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved him.
The family suggests memorials be to Continent of Great Cities Ministry in care
of Central Church of Christ, 1401 S. Monroe St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
