CHARLEY SMITH

Services: Thurs., Jan 22, 1:30 p.m.

Graveside services will be held in the Arvin Cemetery Outdoor Chapel, Thursday, Jan. 22, 1:30 p.m., for Charley Smith, 65, who died January 18, in a Bakersfield hospital after a short illness. Friends and family will be speakers at his service and burial will be in the Arvin Cemetery.

Charley was born in Ringold, OK. His family moved to Arvin when he was 4 years old. He attended local schools and met and married the love of his life, Ruby. They moved to Corcoran where he worked as a Drag Line Operator for several years. He held several positions during his life including Animal Control Officer, Welder, Farm Equipment Mechanic and Operator, before he retired as a General Manager for Oak Flat Packing Co. Charley had lots of interests, his main one being his family, Ruby, his sons and daughters and exotic birds.

He loved people and was a very generous person. He gave of himself and anything he had he gave to those who were in need. Survivors include his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruby; his 3 sons, Thomas of Corcoran, Jake and his wife, Mary, of Bakersfield, Alan and his wife, Lynn, of Fallon, Nevada; 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas, Jr., Marty, James, Mark, Vanessa, Chad and Charley Ray; 4 great grandchildren, Bailey, Bradley, Joslyn and Aaron; 3 brothers, Albert, Jonas and Curt; 1 sister, Mary White, all of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father, Jake; mother, Emily; daughter, Ruby; brother, Harvey and several nieces and nephews
