Walter H. "Walt" Phillips

Walter H. “Walt” Phillips, 73, of Blanchard, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at the Norman Veterans Center.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1930 in Goldsby, Okla. He was the middle child of three children born to William Edward Phillips Jr. and Audrey Bertha Patton.
Walt grew up on a farm in Goldsby and worked as a farmer in his earlier years. He served two years in the U. S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict and eight years in the reserves.
Throughout his life he owned and operated several different businesses. In the 1970’s he operated a dozer business and worked as an under Sheriff for the McClain County Sheriff’s Department.
In the early 1980’s he operated a bait and tackle shop at Cumberland Cove on Lake Texoma, where he also enjoyed his favorite hobby, fishing for catfish.
In the late 1980’s until last year he owned and drove hay hauling trucks and was a hay broker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Phillips on Jan. 8, 1979.
Survivors include his mother, Audrey Phillips Edgemon of Blanchard; one son, Sid Phillips and wife Karen of Tuttle; two daughters; Darlene Beaty and husband Bryan of Oklahoma City and Gevonna Jo Sanders and husband Lynn of Blanchard; one brother, Harry Phillips and wife Nadine of Newcastle; one sister, Yvonne Adkins and husband Billy of Goldsby; seven grandchildren; Bobby Phillips and wife Shannon, Walter Ray Huddleston and wife Tonyia, Gary Dale Huddleston and wife Gail, Rodney Hager and wife Kendra, Lisa Walden and husband Ronnie, and Steven McDonald and Julie Treadwell and husband Jason; 23 great grandchildren; his former wife; Ruth Phillips of Moore; and many other loving relatives and friends
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Officiating was Glen Vaught. Pallbearers were Don Smith, Dr. Mark Winchester, Larry Stidam, Bryan Beaty, Riley Phillips and Gary Huddleston.
Honorary Bearers were Sid Phillips, Harry Phillips, Leon Edgemon, Billy Adkins and Scott Adkins.
Burial was at the Washington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
