David Mitchell Jr., age 87 of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

David was born December 2, 1928 in Washington, OK, the 3rd of 10 children born to David and Martha Ann (Dover) Mitchell. He was raised in the Washington area and attended school in the Ladd Community. At a very young age, David learned the value of hard work, helping when he could to support his family. On November 27, 1948, he married his best friend and true love, Naomi Jean Bennett. They first made their home in Lexington and later Oklahoma City where together they raised 3 children; son, Teddy and daughters, Deborah and Sheila LuAnn. David was a hard worker and a great provider. A proud member of the Carpenters Local Union 329, he was very crafty and worked well with his hands, and made a good living as a carpenter. In 1985, David and Naomi retired to the Eufaula area, later settling back home in Lexington. David was a faithful Christian and served the Lord wholeheartedly. For many years, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in OKC where he served as Deacon and later at First Baptist Church in Lexington where he served as an usher. However, his absolute favorite duty was a as a door greeter on Sunday mornings. David was a family man first, known by many as “Uncle Jr”, and he cherished Naomi. He collected ball caps and loved telling jokes, and looked forward every morning to coffee with his pals at Carls Jr. He enjoyed being outdoors and lived for the simple things in life; like tending to his yard, driving his John Deere tractor and sitting on his porch watching the birds. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him!
