Cleveland “Matt” Mattingly Jr., age 89 of Washington, Oklahoma passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 in Purcell. Matt was born on February 22, 1929 in Maysville, OK.   He was the youngest of five children born to Cleve Land Mattingly and Lydia Kathryn (Franks) Mattingly.         

Matt grew up in the Arnoldview community, SW of Purcell where he attended school until the 8th grade. He then attended high school at Wayne, graduating with the class of 1947.         

On August 6, 1953, in Purcell, Matt married the love of his life, Peggy Jean Maynard. Together Matt and Peggy raised five children, Johnny, Mark, Patricia, Tim and Stephen.         

Matt joined the U. S. Army in 1948 and proudly served his country for 21 years. He first was trained as a military policeman and later transitioned to the Army Security Agency. During his 21 years in the service he lived three years in Germany, Japan three years, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and several other states.    After retiring in 1969, Matt moved his family to Washington, OK and began his second career in the heating and air conditioning industry. After attending Sooner Trade School in OKC, he worked four years for Gordon’s Heat and Air. Then in 1974 he went to work for the State of Oklahoma and worked at the Lexington Inmate Training Center until he retired. After retiring from the State, Matt worked many years for himself in the heat and air business.         

Matt was a faithful Christian man and was ordained as a Deacon into the Baptist Church in 1965. For the past 49 years he has been a member and served as a Deacon at Washington First Baptist Church.   Throughout his life, Matt enjoyed fishing, but most of all he enjoyed watching grandkids and keeping up with all of their activities.

He was preceded in death by:
Parents,                Cleve and Lydia Mattingly;
Two brothers,      Lev and Pete Mattingly,
One sister,            Mary Vieux,
One infant sister,  Opal Mattingly;
One great granddaughter,        Willow Boggs;

He is survived by:
Wife,                    Peggy of the home,
Five children,       Johnny Mattingly and wife Holly of Purcell,

                             Mark Mattingly and wife Beverly of Elgin,

                             Patricia Delich and husband Mark of Lansing, KS,

                             Tim Mattingly and wife Shelley of Noble,

                             Stephen Mattingly and wife Heidi of Gladstone, MO.

14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren,

Many nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Washington, OK.  

Interment will be at the Washington Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, OK.
