Sampson Earl Laney Sr., age 81 of Pauls Valley, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013, at his home. “Earl” was born October 17, 1931 in Purcell, OK, the 2nd of 6 children born to Alfred Laney and Jewel (Davis) Laney. He was raised west of Purcell and attended Arnoldview and Staley Schools. Earl left school at a young age in order to help support his family. He married Lillie Mae Dover and together they raised two children, Sampson Jr. and Belinda. Earl lived in California and Illinois for a time before settling back in Oklahoma. During his working years, he logged many hours as a heavy equipment operator in commercial construction. He later married Hattie Vickers, and two families became one. Earl loved people and was always ready for a good joke. He liked being outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. In his later years, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, companion and friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by: His wife, Lillie Mae Laney, His parents, Alfred and Jewel Laney, 5 brothers, Floyd, Lloyd, Jesse, Tommy and Jody Laney,

Earl is survived by: His son, Sampson Earl Laney Jr. and wife Reneau of OKC, His daughter, Belinda Laney of Okmulgee, OK, Companion, Hattie Vickers of Pauls Valley, Her children, Tina Skinner and husband Ron of Lexington, Gail Maxon of Sulphur, OK, 7 grandchildren, Dakota, Dalton, Sarah, Ashley, Aubrie, Nick and Allison, 5 great grandchildren, Isaiah, Alyssa, Kaylei, Brylee, Hudson and McKenzie, Several nieces and nephews, In-laws and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Washington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
