William Samuel Farris Sr.

Graveside services for William Samuel Farris Sr., 76, of Purcell were held July 23, 2005 at Rosedale Cemetery with the Rev. Ivan Steinhour officiating. Services were under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Farris died July 19, 2005 at his home in Choctaw.
He was born Jan. 9, 1929 in Plainview, Texas, the oldest of three children of L.B. Farris and Ruth White Farris. He was reared in Lawton where he graduated from high school.
Mr. Farris joined the U.S. Navy and served his country from Oct. 3, 1946 until Nov. 22, 1949 when he was honorably discharged.
He married Margie McCain and the couple lived in Oklahoma City, rearing four children. He later married Carlene Holland May 19, 1969. She preceded him in death April 13, 2002.
Mr. Farris worked for Dub Richardson Ford in Oklahoma City as a mechanic for nearly 40 years before retiring. He and his wife lived in Washington for nearly 20 years before moving to Purcell in 1994. After Mrs. Farris died, he moved to Choctaw to be close to his sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carlene; one sister, Vetalee Farris and one son, Elmer “Butch” Long.
Survivors include three sons, Francis C. Farris of Oklahoma City and William S. Farris Jr. and Danny L. Farris and his wife, Elaine, all of Choctaw; one brother, Ronald Gene Farris and his wife, Debbie, of McLoud; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
