Michael Stephen Johnston Jr. age 47 of Newcastle, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Norman Healthplex.

Michael was born March 30, 1970 at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. He was an only child born to Michael Stephen Johnston Sr. and Debra Lee (Thompson). Michael grew up in Del City and graduated from Del City High School in 1988. While in high school he was active in the Boy Scouts and in his Youth Group at Meadowood Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Del Aires and ran sound for Daybreak. After high school he played football one season at East Central University. Michael later attended OSU and received his BS degree in Agricultural Science. While at OSU he enjoyed working as a bouncer at Eskimo Joe’s and being a radio DJ He then attended Rose State College and worked at Southwest Medical Center in OKC. Michael later married, started a family, and began reading monitors at Norman Regional. At the same time he went back to school and received his associate’s degree to become a Registered Nurse. Michael then worked many years for Moore Medical Center and again, went back to school to earn his bachelor’s degree in Nursing to became a Charge Nurse at Moore Medical Center. On June 28, 2003, Michael married the love of his life, Sheila Casey of Newcastle. In 2009 they made their home in Newcastle where they raised their six children. As years go by, Michael was still not finished with his schooling. This time he went back to school and received his Master’s in Chaplaincy. Michael continued working as a nurse until a nagging back injury forced him to retire four years ago. Throughout his life, Michael was an avid Super Hero, Star Trek, Star Wars and Wrestling fan/collector. He also was an OSU football fan and Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved all kinds of music especially hard rock. Most of all, Michael was a family man, who loved spending time with his wife and children. Michael and his family were members of Westmoore Community Church in southwest OKC.

Michael was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Donella and Tommy Thompson, Stan and Inez Johnston and Yvonne Hinnman.

He is survived by: Wife, Sheila Johnston of the home; Children, Emily, Lorren, Abigail, Rachael, Kaylee and Connor Johnston all of Newcastle; Mother, Debbie Johnston of Newcastle; Father, Mike Johnston Sr. of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mother and Father-in-law, Pat and Rick Casey of Newcastle; Brother-in-law and nephew, Rick and Ryan Casey, both of Newcastle ½ Sister, Shannon Reeves and husband Mike of Ft. Worth, Texax, One uncle, Tommy Thompson of Weatherford, Texas One aunt, Kathy Miller of OKC; Also other loving relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, December 11, 2017 at Westmoore Community Church, 12609 S. Western Ave., OKC.

Interment will be at Newcastle Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project.
