Gala V. Garrett age 70, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014 at her home in Newcastle. She was born April 3, 1944 in Lindsay, Oklahoma. She was the middle child of three children born to Dennis Vaughn Hodges and Vannoy Ben )Williams) Hodges.

Gala grew up a farm girl. She began school at Criner Grade School and later Lindsay Schools, graduating in 1961. She continued her education at East Central University for a year, followed by a year at Central State University. Gala then married her best friend and soul mate, John Andrew Garrett on April 30, 1963 in Lindsay. Gala enjoyed being a wife and homemaker and soon became a mother to their only son Jason. Because of John’s work, her family lived in various states including California, Illinois and Louisiana before settling in Durant in 1989. Gala returned to school there at Southeastern University, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Social Science. She started working for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services that same year, a career that spanned 20 years. In 1990, Gala and John settled in Newcastle. Gala loved life and had a great sense of humor. She loved teasing and joking with her family and friends. Her favorite hobby was shopping and you could say she was an avid shopper. She loved going to the malls and lately her favorite place to shop was from her own home, shopping from the TV or on her computer. When not shopping, she enjoyed Facebook and taking care of her dogs. Gala was a talented musician and singer and she particularly liked blue grass music. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newcastle. She was a loving wife and mother, a special daughter, sister and aunt. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: Father, Dennis Hodges; Step-Father, Homer Cunningham; Sister-in-law, Vada Jean Garrett; Nephew, Mark Shaw;

Gala leaves behind: Her husband, John Garrett, of the home; Her son, Jason Garrett of Oklahoma City; Her mother, Vannoy Cunningham of Newcastle; Her sister, Clara Green and husband Geary of Chickasha; Brother, Larry Hodges and wife Jeannie of Newcastle; 3 nieces, Lorri Thomas of Chickasha, Kerri McKewin and husband Steve of McKinney, TX and April Withrow and husband Larry of Newcastle; 2 nephews, Austin Green and wife Tracy of Amber, OK and Todd Hodges and wife Melissa of OKC; 8 great nieces & nephews, Lexi, Landon, Chance, Ashtin, Sarah, Amanda, Reese and Eston, one great great niece, Landri whom she loved babysitting Also a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 26, 2014, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle.

A private family interment will be at Newcastle Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Newcastle.
