Funeral services for Zela Gallamore, 93, of Purcell were held Aug. 1, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Purcell with the Rev. Bob Atterberry and the Rev. Wayne Brown officiating. Services were under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Gallamore died July 29, 2005 at Country Tyme Gardens in Purcell. She was born Aug. 5, 1911 in Pauls Valley, the youngest of six children of John Thomas Haire and Margaret Lee Wood Haire. She lived in Pauls Valley when she was a child and her family later moved to Purcell where she lived all during her school years.
On Sept. 6, 1929 she married Elbert Gallamore. The couple had one child. Mr. and Mrs. Gallamore lived in the Purcell area most of their lives where they were active members of Purcell First Baptist Church and served in various leadership roles.
Mrs. Gallamore had been a Sunbeam Leader, taught Training Union and taught Sunday school for many years. She took great pride in the fact that she and her husband organized and founded the visitation extension program at the church.
She was a charter member of the Purcell Gladiolus Garden Club which was founded in 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert Gallamore, July 28, 1991; two brothers, C.B. Haire and Y.L. Haire and three sisters, Elzie Pugh, Vio Renoud and Johnie Lee Moore.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan Rousey and her husband, Bill, of Purcell; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
Pallbearers were Bob Barnett, Alton Dragoo, Larry Melton, Merle Clark, Terry Rousey, Don Rousey and David Sparlin.
Honorary pallbearers were Della Melton, Norma Shirley, Berta Jo Mathis, Cheryl Strong, Opal Smith, the staff and friends at Country Tyme Gardens and members of the Purcell Gladiolus Garden Club.
