Charles Truett Waldo age 81 of Purcell, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Callaway Nursing Home in Sulphur, OK.

He was born January 1, 1933 in Pope County, Arkansas. He was the youngest child of nine children born to General Harrison Waldo and Lou Rene (Hickey) Waldo. Charles grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Dover High School in 1950. In 1951 he enlisted into the U. S. Navy and proudly served his country for four years during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged in 1955 he moved to Quapaw, OK and got a job in road construction, building bridges over the Will Rogers Turnpike. While living in Quapaw he met and later married Shirley Brown on April 6, 1956. Together Charles and Shirley raised two children, Lagenna and Gary Dale. Charles began working for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in 1957, trained as a Telegraph Operator. For many years he worked and lived in various cities across Oklahoma and Kansas. In 1966 he settled in Purcell where he retired and remained living until his death. After Shirley died in 1993, Charles married Helen Yates on Feb. 12, 1994 in Purcell. Then after her passing in 2007, he married Betty Harrell on Sept. 12, 2010. Throughout his life, Charles had a love for Bluegrass music. He taught himself how to play the acoustic guitar and for many years he has enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals and fairs all across Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. At one time he played in a Bluegrass Band called “Umy and The Good Timers”. Charles was a faithful Christian man and for over 40 years he was an active member of the Church of Christ at Jackson and Green Ave. in Purcell. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved life and he loved people. And he always had a smile to give to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Harrison and Lou Waldo, 2 Wives, Shirley on July 11, 1993 Helen on April 6, 2007 Six brothers and two sisters,

He is survived by: Wife, Betty Waldo of Chickasha Daughter, Lagenna Tomlinson and husband Larry of Lexington, Son, Gary Dale Waldo and wife Susie of Waxahachie, TX, Step-daughter, Cindy Smitherman and husband Quintin of Chickasha, OK, 5 grandchildren, Kris Tomlinson and wife Staci of Norman, OK, Kimberly Alexander and husband Mark of Yukon, OK, Talytha Tomlinson and fiancé Dwight of Purcell, OK, Gary Don Waldo and wife Karen of Waxahachie, TX, Stephanie Waldo and fiancé David of Waxahachie, TX. 9 great grandchildren, Morgan Reynolds, Brittani Alexander, Nicole Alexander, Allison Booker, Logan Truett Waldo, Eli Waldo, Cora Booker, Zoe`and Duece Trenary. and one on the way Tajz Harrison Booker.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
