The funeral for William “Bill” Harrison Sawyer Sr., 72, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buddy Drake will officiate. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell. The Rev. Paul Buckner will officiate.

He was born March 3, 1934, in Jacksonville, N.C., to Lonnie L. and Etta Mae Conway Sawyer and died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at his home in Enid.

He grew up in Jacksonville, graduating from Jacksonville High School. He later attended the University of Oklahoma. He served in the aviation branch of the Navy during the Korean War.

He married Imogene Hackney Feb. 23, 1953, in Van Buren, Ark. They made their home in Purcell. He was self-employed as a financial adviser and estate planner. He was a member of Enid Freewill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for 32 years. He also had a pilot license.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanie, of the home; one son, William Harrison Sawyer Jr. of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Carla Towler of Purcell and Shawna Abraham of Enid; five brothers, James Sawyer of Maple Hill, N.C., Tom Sawyer of Monroe, N.C., Mickey, Sandy and Lonnie Sawyer, all of Clayton, N.C.; four sisters, Nancy Jimanez of Jacksonville, Gerry Hunkins of Hockset, N. H., and Linda Smith and Sylvia Butterworth, both of Smithville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, a son and one grandson.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
