Alan Pounds, age 74 of Purcell, passed away Friday, February 06, 2015, at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. Alan Hardwick Pounds was born July 29, 1940 in Oklahoma City, OK, the 3rd of 6 children born to Albert Arthur Pounds and Frances Margaret (Hardwick) Pounds. The son of a Dentist, Alan grew up in Purcell and attended Purcell schools, graduating in 1957. Alan then attended the University of Oklahoma for a short time. On May 31, 1959, Alan married his best friend and soul mate, Ms. Mary Sue Simeroth. They made their home in Wayne where together they raised 3 sons, Scott, Jeff and Keith. Alan was a hard worker and a great provider. He worked as brick mason, but his heart was on the farm, and he enjoyed everything about his life there. Alan loved spending time outdoors, and whether it was camping at Lake Murray, fishing or hunting, he looked forward to those times. Alan was an avid supporter of Wayne Schools. He served as President of the Wayne School Board for 10 years. He was a strong supporter of the FFA and sponsored many pig shows. Alan’s passion was his Labrador dogs, and he never missed an opportunity to drink coffee with his friends. He cherished Mary and the boys and their families, and his grandkids became his life. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by: His parents, Dr. A.A. and Frances Pounds; His infant son, Eric Lynn Pounds; A sister, Barbara Birchum and 2 brothers, Don Pounds and Mike Pounds.

Alan leaves behind: His wife, Mary of the home; 3 sons, Scott Pounds of Wayne, Jeff Pounds and wife Michelle of Purcell and Keith Pounds of Wayne; 2 sisters, Pam Odom of Moore and Sara Higgins and husband Ron of Moore; 4 grandchildren, David Pounds, Jared Pounds, Trey Pounds and Erin Pounds; 2 great grandchildren, Kiley Pounds and Cooper Pounds and A host of other family and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Hillside Cemetery.
