John H. Norvell age 82 of Purcell, passed away Thursday, January 05, 2017 in Purcell. He was born August 6, 1934 at home on the family farm, west of Purcell. He was the youngest of six children born to Ira Edgar Norvell and Mildred Catherine (Perry) Norvell. Johnny grew up a farm boy, learning how to work hard in the cotton and broomcorn fields. He graduated from Purcell High School and later served two years in the United States Army. On August 29, 1967, Johnny married Phyllis Ann Drake. For the first five years of their marriage they lived in Florida. While living there, their only child, J.C. Norvell was born. In 1972 they moved back to Purcell, the area he called home. Throughout his life, Johnny had a love for nice cars. When he was younger, he always had a new car every year. It was his love for cars that led him to his profession. Johnny worked most of his life as a Service Technician for General Motors. He worked for various auto dealerships in Garvin, McClain and Cleveland Counties. His last employer when he retired was Spencer Chevrolet in Norman. For many years, Johnny and his family enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Texoma, fishing and boating. He was proud of his Chickasaw Indian heritage and after he retired he stayed actively involved at the Chickasaw Senior Center in Purcell. He loved watching O.U. sports and OKC Thunder Basketball. Most of all he loved spending time with and spoiling his granddaughter, Maycee.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Ira and Choc Norvell; Two brothers, Perry Norvell and Glynn Norvell; Three sisters, Louise Wyatt, Dorothy Vela and Jimmie Duffy.

He is survived by: Wife of 49 years, Phyllis Norvell of the home; One son, J. C. Norvell and wife Leesa of Norman, One granddaughter, Maycee Norvell of Norman, One brother-in-law, Robert Duffy of Norman, Many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
