Gene “Pazee” Mayo, age 87 of Purcell, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Norman Veterans Center.

He was born on July 3, 1927 in Washington, OK. He was the 5th of six children born to James Dexter Mayo and Georgann (Prince) Mayo. Gene grew up a farm boy living between Purcell and Dibble. He attended Dibble schools and also worked for his father in his business at the Mayo’s Country Store.

At the age of 18 he enlisted into the U. S. Army Air Corp and proudly served his country overseas during WWII. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Dibble and soon married the love of his life, Lola Benlean Harper. They were married on February 27, 1948 in Purcell. Together they raised two daughters, LaCrisa and Debra. Gene remained living on a farm west of Purcell most all of his life. For nearly 10 years he worked in the oilfield. He then worked five years as a salesman in the parts department for John Deere in Purcell. He later began working for the city of Purcell and retired at age 65 from the water department. Gene was a faithful Christian man who loved God with all his heart. He raised his family up in the Pentecostal faith and was a great example of a godly husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Throughout his life he enjoyed being outdoors, especially working on his farm and raising cattle. His favorite pastime was crappie fishing in local farm ponds around McClain County.

Gene was preceded in death by: Parents, Jim and Walk Mayo; Son-in-law, Jim Hughes; Sister, Verta Lambert; 3 Brothers, Elvie, Raymond and Everett;

Survivors include: Wife, Benlean “Nan” Mayo of the home in Purcell, Two daughters, LaCrisa Green and husband Robert of Purcell, Debra Hughes of Edmond; Adopted daughter, Alice Boyette of Gainsville, FL; One brother, David Mayo and wife Theo of Midwest City; Two grandchildren, Christopher Green and wife Julie of Cleveland, TN, DeAnna Newman and husband Seth of Purcell, Six great-grandchildren, Whitney, Ben, Ethan, Zoe, Clive, and Emery; Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
