Helen Marie Gray age 83 of Purcell, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, August 25, 2014 after a brief illness.

She was born on July 28, 1931 in Purcell. Helen was the oldest of four children born to James Leonard Jackson and Hazel Marie (Cypert) Jackson. Helen grew up in Purcell and attended the Purcell schools graduating in the class of 1949. Four years later she married the love of her life, Richard Camden Gray. They were married on Sept. 12, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Purcell. Richard and Helen established their home in Purcell in 1955 and together raised two sons. Helen became a member of the Purcell First Baptist Church at the age of 15. She remained an active and faithful member for the past 68 years. For many years she taught Sunday school, from bed babies to currently the teacher of the Senior Women’s Class. Helen worked as a homemaker during the years her sons were growing up. She later went to work for her husband Richard as his bookkeeper at the local Kennedy Drug Store. In 1976 she and Richard opened the United Drug Store inside the United Grocery Store in Purcell. She continued to be the company bookkeeper and accountant until they sold the business. Helen had many interest and hobbies including; oil painting, needle point, cooking and playing bridge. She and her family enjoyed going on summer vacations and snow skiing in the winters. She loved Purcell high school sports and O.U. Football and she never missed a sporting event when her sons or grandsons were playing. Helen was a generous person, giving her time and love to her church and her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, James and Hazel Jackson; Brother-in-law, Bob Humeston;

She is survived by: Husband, Richard of the home; Two sons, Richard C. “Dick” Gray Jr. of Amarillo, TX. Kurt Gray and wife Susan of Purcell; Two sisters, Nonie Humeston of Purcell, Faye Bryen and husband Leonard of Purcell; One brother, Howard Jackson and wife Linda of Fernley, NV; Three grandsons, Andrew, Mitchell and Ethan Gray; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends;

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Purcell First Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Purcell First Baptist Youth. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
