David Edward Gainey age 60 of Sulphur, OK passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at Norman Regional Hospital. He was born February 11, 1954 in Jacksonville, FL. He was the oldest child of four children born to Herbert Gainey and Joh (Capshaw) Gainey. David grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated high school from Jacksonville in 1972. He later graduated from Jacksonville University with a BS degree in Biology in 1978. While in college he met the love of his life, Susan Barnett. They were married on his 25th birthday, Feb. 11, 1979 in Jacksonville. That next year they moved to Ratliff City, OK, then two years later built a home in Sulphur where they raised their family. David worked most of his life as a carpenter and home builder, building and remodeling homes throughout south central Oklahoma. He loved the outdoors and was an avid naturalist. He especially enjoyed hiking and camping with his family, and getting on the water in his kayak. Some of his other past-times include; bird watching, kayaking, traveling, and making anything and everything with his hands. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a special son and brother. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by: Father, Herbert Gainey on April 19, 2000;

He is survived by: Wife, Susan Gainey of the home in Sulphur; Mother, Joh Gainey of Sulphur; Two sons, Ryan Gainey and wife Jasmin of Edmond, Michael Gainey and wife Laura of Holbrook, Mass; One daughter, Christina Gainey of Norman; Two brothers, Robin Gainey and wife Roswitha of Jacksonville, FL, Stanley Gainey and wife Karen of Sulphur; One sister, Julie Gainey of OKC; One grandson, Adam Herbert Gainey; His best friend “Scout”, his dog. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
