Charles Clinton “Clint” Cheatwood age 74 of Purcell, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Purcell Municipal Hospital. He was born July 6, 1941 in Purcell, OK. He was an only child born to Joseph Clinton Cheatwood and Edna Faye (Price) Cheatwood. Clint grew up a farm boy living southwest of Purcell.

Clint spent his primary school years at Fairview Schools in Purcell. He then attended Wayne High School and graduated with the Class of 1959. He was a member of Future Farmers of America as he enjoyed farming and raising cattle for the family’s dairy farm. After high school, Clint attended the University of Oklahoma for a period of time until he married and began a family. He was the proud father of eight children, proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and recently he became a great-grandfather. Clint worked most of his life in the steel industry. He began his career as a steelhand on the manufacturing floor of Robberson Steel Co. in Oklahoma City; Quickly ascending to the roll of Supervisor, in which he held until retiring from the company. He then began at Auxier-Scott Supply Co. as Plant Supervisor, also in Oklahoma City. Clint later took several other jobs in the steel business across the United States throughout his later life, residing in Washington, Mississippi, Florida and Kansas. After retirement, Clint moved back to the Purcell/Wayne area where he and his son Michael owned and operated Bar-C Industries for 11 years in Wayne. Clint was a member of the Purcell Masonic Lodge #27 for the past 41 years. He attended Unity Missionary Baptist Church for most of his life, then later became a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Rural Electric Cooperative in Lindsay. He belonged to the Purcell Roundup Club and participated in many local parades and rodeos with his children. He took pride in his Country and volunteered his time and services for many state and local elections. For many years he enjoyed playing poker on Wednesday evenings with a group of friends in Purcell. Nearing the end of his life, he loved the company and familiar faces offered at The Purcell Senior Citizens Center. Most of all, he enjoyed watching and rooting for his grandchildren’s sports teams and loved spending time with them. They were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, J.C. and Edna Faye Cheatwood;

He is survived by: Eight children, Paul Cheatwood and wife Julie of Purcell, Michael Cheatwood and wife Janet of Purcell, Jerimy Lam and wife Rachel of Tecumseh Rebecca Mott and husband Daniel Mott Jr. of New York, Angela Hines and husband Jessie of Paoli, Jamie Cormany and husband Bryan of Lexington, Nicole Cheatwood of Norman, Amanda Cheatwood and husband Justin Damman of Noble; 12 grandchildren, Nick, Casey, Alex, Zachary, Brandon, Ashlie, Avery, Nate, Gavyn, Ryleigh, Brenlee and Reilly; One great grandchild, Cora; Loyal friend and Caretaker, Dottie Thomas of Purcell. Also many other relatives and friends.
