Rewritten from the Purcell Register of Jul 25, 1935 by Jo Aguirre

W. C. Boyer was born in New Marion, Ind., on February 14, 1847 and died Sunday, July 21,1935 at the age of 88. Interment was held in the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

He enlisted in the Civil War in 1864 and moved to Indian Territory in 1873.
He married Annie Clardy in Wamego, Kansas on October 3, 1886. She was the daughter of J. E. Clardy, prominent lawyer and early day settler of Kansas and to this union was born one son, Frank Boyer.
For a number of years, Chris held a government license to operate a trading store in the old Kickapoo Nation near the site of what is now Wellston, Oklahoma. Later he moved to Pottawatomie Country near Wanette where he engaged in farming and ranching, having extensive land holdings in that area. He moved to Purcell before the opening of this country and in 1895, he was appointed Deputy United States Marshal . He served in this position for four years...and following his term, he served as U. S. Jailer for several additional years.”
