Ada was born in Springfield, Missouri, on December 24, 1910, the youngest of 14 children of Reuben Charles Goff and Clara Jane Goff. She started to school in Springfield and transfered to Bitter Creek School in Mayes County, Oklahoma, when her family moved there in 1920. Ada graduated from high school in Adair, class of 1926, and from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater with a B.S. in Education in 1930. She then taught at Henryetta Oklahoma.
She worked at the McDonnell-Douglas aircraft plant in Tulsa, and served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
In 1938 she met Theodore Carl Tenny, Sr. They were married in 1945 and their son, Theodore Carl Tenny, Jr. was born on October 20. They divorced.
Ada earned an M.S. in Psychology from Kansas State College at Pittsburg in 1948 . She also did graduate study at OU in Norman and at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
From 1946 to 1963 Ada taught in Bushyhead, Checotah, Kiowa KS, Nowata, Turley, Blackwell, and Tulsa. She became Dean of Women at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, in 1963, and high school guidance counselor at Grand Junction, CO, in 1967, before retiring to the family home in Joplin, Missouri, in 1975.
She died in Joplin on May 26, 1981.
