Old West Cemetery
AKA: Old Town Cemetery
Spavinaw, Mayes County, Oklahoma

This is the original cemetery for the town of Spavinaw. Most of the burials were moved in the 1920's due to the dam being built to create Spavinaw Lake as a water source for the City of Tulsa. The original town is underwater in the lake. The current town was moved about 1/4 of a mile to the southeast.
The area where the cemetery was is now a picnic area for lakegoers and fisherman. There are only 4 remaining graves. Three are known burials that are marked with headstones. There is also one unknown burial there that is not marked that is near the lightpole.
All burials that were moved from Old West Cemetery were moved to the current Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery. The only burials that were not moved wer those that the family did not give permission for the burials to be moved, or there was no known family to contact.
If you have family buried in the Old West Cemetery and have obits (with newspapers permission or an obit that you can write) or individual portraits or can write a short bio and would like to add your information to this website, contact the county coordinator for more information. You can also check out our How to Submit page.
NOTICE. If you submit information to this website and change your e-mail address please notify the area coordinator with the county/cemetery and new e-mail address so we can keep our pages as up to date as possible.
