Virginia “Hazel” Wheeler, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 23rd in Oklahoma City.


She was born in February 1932 in Marshall County, Oklahoma to Herman Earl and Lillian “Christeen” Alford Maxwell.  Hazel married Leon Wheeler on September 30 th in Booneville, Arkansas. Hazel retired from Baptist Medical Center in 1997 as an LPN after 30 years of service. She lived a full life and enjoyed baking for others, spending time in her flower beds, and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved serving others, especially through church organizations such as mobile meals.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 40 years, Leon Harvey Wheeler, Eddie Lee Sr., her oldest son, well as her parents, and her brothers, Don and Bobby Maxwell.

Hazel is survived by her sons, Donnie Wheeler and Debi Marks, her youngest son, Bobbie Wheeler and his wife Debbie; as well as her daughter-in-law, Peggy Wheeler; four grandchildren, Heather Pogue and her husband Randy, Dustin Wheeler and his wife Rebekah, Erin Wheeler, and Eddie Lee Wheeler Jr. She was the proud great-grandmother of Gharrett, Benjamin, and Camden Wheeler. She is also survived by her sister, Lillie Ann and her husband Jack Duncan and sister, Diana and her husband Terry Cumbie. She had an abundance of nieces, nephews, and friends that she loved.

Visitation will be Friday, May 29th at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany, Oklahoma. 

A celebration of her life will occur graveside at Woodberry Forest Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30 th in Madill, Oklahoma.
