Robert Newton Favors, age 87 of Flower Mound, Texas passed away on  February 20th, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Aylesworth, Oklahoma (which is currently under Lake Texoma) on June 11th, 1935 to William Elgin Favors and Mary Rebecca (Worthley) Favors. Bob graduated from Madill High School and was a member of the Hot Lickers Band where he played the trumpet for many school assemblies and public events.

After high school, Bob joined the Oklahoma National Guard, where his claim to fame was his once in a lifetime chance to meet and chat with Elvis Presley while serving his country, Bob also attended and received his bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Bob caught the eye of Janice Barnes while driving his brand-new white, convertible Ford Sunliner through Madill, Oklahoma and the two married on June 9th, 1962, at the Madill Church of Christ. Bob was employed by the Oklahoma Highway Department as an Engineer for over 30 years. His career spanned from his first job as a “rodman” to the Assistant Division Engineer. He worked at several divisions all over Oklahoma and remained the longest in Antlers, Oklahoma where all three of his children were raised. Upon retirement from the State of Oklahoma, he worked for the federal government at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Muskogee, Oklahoma, as a Regional Road Engineer for 6 years before retiring for the second time.

After his final retirement, he and Janice moved to Flower Mound, Texas to be closer to grandchildren. Bob was given the nickname “Big Bob” from one of the 30 plus foster children that graced the doors of the Favors home while they were foster parents in the Antlers area. Bob was also a Deacon at the Antlers Church of Christ for many years and was remembered for his servant-like heart.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice Favors of Flower Mound, son Bobby Favors and wife Denise of Lewisville, Texas; son Mike Favors and wife Christy of Edmond, Oklahoma, and daughter Kristi Wheeler and husband Jason of Copper Canyon, Texas. Bob is also survived by 7 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 7 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William Elgin Favors and Mary Rebecca (Worthley) Favors and brother William Favors.
