Lillian Pearl and Clarence Ray MITCHELL

Square Cedar Cemetery

A private family service for Clarence Ray Mitchell, 99, of Enid, will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Square Cedar Cemetery, at Cleo Springs. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Clarence was born on October 17, 1912 to Elmer E. and Ida Gertrude (Webb) Mitchell west of Ringwood, and died on Sunday, April 08, 2012, in Oklahoma City. Clarence grew up on a farm in northwest Oklahoma in Major County. On July 27, 1937 he married Lillian Pearl Odom in Fairview, and to this union one daughter Neva Marie was born. He then farmed, until he joined the U. S. Army serving from October 8, 1942 to December 23, 1945.

Clarence traveled the United States building grain elevators, and working in the oil fields. He had several hobbies including buying and selling antiques, fishing, hunting, and polka dancing. Up until he was 85 he would drive to Oklahoma City five nights a week to dance.

Clarence always looked forward to the annual wheat crop on his farms in three different counties. He was a very independent person living at home until three weeks ago.

Clarence is survived by his daughter Neva Marie Jeffries of Enid; 3 grandchildren Rick and wife Susan Jeffries of Ringwood, Janet Ray Atchison of Edmond, and Marcy and husband Jeff Wichert of Fairview; 8 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian on April 4, 1940, his parents, one son-in-law Billy Joe Jeffries, a brother Jim, and five sisters Jessie Mitchell, Lucy Bell, Cora Lewis, Marie Posey, and Loraine Mitchell.
