Square Cedar Cemetery



The funeral for Richard Lee Hamen, 69, of Cleo Springs, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cleo Springs Nazarene Church. The Rev. Jim Burggraf will officiate. Burial will be in Square Cedar Cemetery north of Cleo Springs. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1936, near Cleo Springs to Emil “Walt” and Phyllis Heffron Hamen and died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Fairview Regional Medical Center, Fairview.

He attended Cleo Springs High School and later worked at U.S. Gypsum, Southard. He married Betty Arlene Dyer in June 1959 in Ringwood.

He served in the Army from 1959 to 1961, then was a reservist until 1965. He returned to work for U.S. Gypsum, then was a driver for Gold Spot Dairy, Enid, for 15 years.

He married Dixie Hood Hill Hamen in 1975. He worked for Hamm and Phillips in Enid for 21 years and then for Farmers Co-op, Hunter.

He was a member of Dairy Farmers of America, Cleo Springs Volunteer Fire Depart-ment, Cleo Springs Lions Club and Oilman’s Association.

Surviving are three daughters, Laurie Nightengale of Cleo Springs, Cynthia Schmidt of Cleo Springs and Angela Sloan of Oklahoma City; four brothers, J. B. Hamen, David Hamen, Jim Hamen and Glenn Wampler, all of Cleo Springs; one sister, Norma Naugle of Cleo Springs; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, one grandchild and one stepson.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cleo Springs Volunteer Fire Department and first responders.
