James E. FUCHS

Square Cedar Cemetery

James Elmer Fuchs, 79, passed from this earthly life on January 10, 2014 in Enid, Oklahoma after a formidable struggle.

James was born in Stark County, North Dakota on April 1, 1934 to John and Pauline (Stevahn) Fuchs, the third of seven children. He married Georgia Daily of Flint, Michigan on March 5, 1954 in Brenham, TX. This almost sixty year marriage produced four children.

He began his career in 1952 with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (later NOAA-NGS) and retired after 38-1/2 years in 1990. During that time, he and his family traveled extensively, criss-crossing the U.S. numerous times. Most notably, his surveying expertise took him to Alaska following the 1964 earthquake.

After retirement, James and Georgia made Enid their home. He worked at B-Mart and later at Burchardt Furniture in the Old Newman Bldg.. Over the last twelve years, he has been employed by Jumbo Foods (west). He enjoyed meeting and talking with people he met there, particularly the Tuesday Senior Citizens.

Jim was a skilled carpenter and caregiver. His life was hallmarked by his humility, kindness and generosity.

Preceding him in death are parents John and Pauline; brothers Raymond, John, and Armin; and grandson Preston Fuchs.

James is survived by his wife Georgia; children Douglas Fuchs (Maryann) of The Woodlands, Texas, Joel (Wilena) Fuchs of Tulsa, Leanna (Larry) Sheppard of Buna, Texas, and Janet (Lee) Roberts of Wakita; grandchildren Zachary Fuchs, Daniel and Bradley Fox (formerly Fuchs), Peter and Ryan Sheppard, James and Beth Moody; great-grandson Nolan Barnard; sister Carole (Paul) Wogen of Minnesota; brothers Edgar (Viola) and Kenneth (Mary Ann) Fuchs of North Dakota; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his lap-warmer Luke.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Homeward Bound Pug Rescue and Adoption of Oklahoma and the American Heart Association.

Viewing and visitation with family will be Monday evening 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dan Barrick and Rev. Jarrod Cloud officiating. Burial will follow in Square Cedar Cemetery, Cleo Springs.
