A 65-year-old Fairview man was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. 412 about a mile and a half west of the junction with Oklahoma 58 in Major County.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Dennis W. Ratzlaff, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene when his pickup was struck by another pickup driven by Robert Lee Farris, 58, of Turpin, about 9:15 a.m.

Farris was westbound on U.S. 412 and Ratzlaff was eastbound when Farris fell asleep, crossed the centerline and struck Ratzlaff’s vehicle head on, according to an OHP report. Farris was taken by ambulance to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid and admitted with arm and leg injuries.

A portion of the highway was closed for about 4 hours while troopers investigated the collision. The road closed at 10 a.m. and was reopened about 2:10PM.
