Saron Cemetery


The funeral service for Edwin James (Jim) Hiebert, age 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the Willow View United Methodist Church. Rev. Lesly Broadbent will officiate. Burial will be in the Saron Cemetery, Orienta, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

James was born July 4, 1930, to Jake and Amanda Mitchell Hiebert at Orienta, OK, and died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in Enid. He attended elementary school at Sharon Valley School in the Orienta area.

After graduation from Oklahoma Bible Academy, he went to work with his father in construction. In August of 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Jantz at Meno, OK, and they were privileged to live and work together for 57 years. In 1959, he began Hiebert Brothers Construction with his brothers, Everett, Vernon and Marvin Hiebert. He always praised his brothers for the success of their company. After 20 years he left the construction company and began new adventures. He owned and operated mobile home sales, a mobile home park, mini storage units along with owning an insurance company with his good friend, Ed Montgomery.

In 1979, James became a Dale Carnegie instructor and regional manager of eastern Oklahoma, later adding western Oklahoma to his territory. He continued working with Dale Carnegie courses in Oklahoma until he gained a Dale Carnegie sponsorship in 1987. His territory consisted of southwest Missouri, southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma until his retirement in 2000.

He learned to fly, and with his brothers owned a plane which they used to fly to their out-of-town jobs. He got his love for working with wood from his daddy, and he was always planning and making things for the home or his loved ones. He and Lois shared a love for travel and spent many happy days seeing the country.

He served as board member for the Evangelical Mexican Mission for 47 years, serving as president of the board for the past two years. He was a member of Gideon International for many years, having Gideon services in many area churches. He was a member of Willow View United Methodist Church in Enid, and was involved as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and on a mission committee. He was also an associate member of the Saron Mennonite Church, Orienta, OK, where he taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent over 20 years.

James is survived by his loving wife, Lois; daughter, Judy Gay of Lindsay, OK; son, Jim Lee Hiebert and wife, Margaret of Winter Haven, FL, and daughter, Joy Richert and husband, James of Ringwood, OK. his much loved nine grandchildren, Morgan, Chase and Madison Gay, Joshua Hiebert and wife, Katie, Jordan and Amy Hiebert, and Ross, Brad and Kelsy Richert. He has two great-grandchildren, James and Heidi Hiebert. Also surviving are brothers, Everett Hiebert and wife, Betty of Orienta, OK, Vernon Hiebert and wife, Kathryn of Meno, OK, Don Hiebert and wife, Virginia of Edmond, OK and Marvin Hiebert and wife, Reba of Ringwood, OK; along with many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Amanda Hiebert, and sister, Beatrice White.

Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Mexican Mission with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home as custodian of the funds.
