Saron Cemetery


The funeral for Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Goddard, 83, of Norfolk, Va., will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Saron Mennonite Church, Orienta. The Rev. Arnold Curby will officiate. Burial will be in Saron Mennonite Cemetery west of Orienta. Arrange-ments are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc., Fairview.

She was born May 14, 1922, on a farm near Orienta to Johannes B. and Helena Lohrenz and died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 in Norfolk, Va.

At age 17, she worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators founder Cameron Townsend. In 1940, she entered John Brown University, where she met her husband, Robert L. Goddard Sr. She worked with him at the church they pastored in Memphis, Tenn. In 1963, she joined the staff at Wheaton College, becoming administrative assistant to the dean of the faculty. She was a member of Avalon Hills Bible Church.

Surviving are two sons, Robert and David Goddard; and two daughters, Gloria Swanson, and Janice Matuch; two brothers, Gene Lohrenz of Fairview, and Norman Lohrenz of Dallas; two sisters Donna Nickel of Corn and Lorraine Bullard of Hydro; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert.
