Saron Cemetery


The funeral for William “Bill” Richard Bookout, 80, of Fairview, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Saron Mennonite Church, Orienta. The Rev. Arnold Curby will officiate. Burial will be in Saron Mennonite Cemetery, Orienta. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Paris, Ark., to Samuel Lee and Melinda Evelyn Ingram Bookout and died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Oklahoma City.

He grew up in Arkansas. He enlisted in the Army during World War II, serving in Italy before the Army found out he was only 15 years old and sent him home. He reenlisted in the Army in 1947, serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged in January 1950. He worked with his father at Parker Construction Co. until January 1951, when he returned to the Army, serving in Japan. He was honorably discharged in December 1953 and returned to Arkansas.

He was a cross country truck driver, spending his life on the road from coast to coast.

In 1994, he retired from trucking and moved to Fairview with his children.

Surviving are one son, William Bookout of the home; one daughter, Julie Bookout of Yukon; one sister, Janetta Wormock of Spiro; and one brother, Paul Bookout of Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund.
