Connie J. HICKS

Rusk Cemetery

Funeral Services for Connie June Hicks, 72, of Chester, will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Orion Baptist Church, Orion, Oklahoma. Pastor Shawn Classen will officiate. Arrangement by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Connie was born in the family home at Fairview, Oklahoma on August 15, 1941 to Walter and Juanita (Brockelman) Sheffield and died August 16, 2013 at Mercy Health Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

With Lewis by her side, raising her boys teaching them the good ways and how to work for what you wanted was the standard and way of life. It wasn’t easy but there was always love. Connie loved to sew in her younger years, making shirts for her boys and different clothing for family and friends. Even making doll clothes for her nieces Barbie dolls. The two, her and her mother Juanita made Kathy’s wedding dress and veil.

She never missed an opportunity to help with school functions and football games, hauling the neighbor kids to school on her way to work in the mornings or bringing them to and from the games. Being honored by the booster club and given a honorary letter jacket was the highlight of her cheering years for the yellow jackets. Fairview paper did a story on “the lady ringing the cowbell!!”

She loved raising and watching her grandchildren grow. They were the delight of her life and the light in her eyes. With blended families, it didn’t matter whose kid you were, she opened her arms wide and loved them all.

Connie is survived by her husband Lewis of the home, sons, David Tucker and wife Kathy and Timmy Tucker and wife Charlotte, one brother Gary Sheffield, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Betty Louise Cunningham and Bertha Lavon Sheffield.

Memorials may be made to the OMRF Cancer Division with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
