Rosela and William P. WIMER

Pleasant Prairie aka Wildwood Cemetery

William P. Wimer was born in Pennsylvania, February 4, 1842, And died at the home of James Wiley to the east of Ames, Oklahoma, June 20, 1911 aged 69 yrs, 4 months and 16 days.

When about three years old his parents moved to Ohio where he grew to manhood and married Miss Mollie Moore. To this marriage were born three sons, two of whom, Lee Wymer of Eureka, and George Wymer of Peabody, Kansas, survive him and were present at the funeral.

After being widowed for several years (not true, they were separated or divorced) on Dec 26, 1882, he was married to Rosella S. Laner ( actually Slover) of Springfield, Illinois at El Dorado, Kansas. To this union were born a daughter and a son, Mrs May Linnie Bowles (Linnie Ely Wimer) of Indianhoma and Sylvester Wimer of Ames, Oklahoma, During March, 1898, the family moved to Woods county of which Major county was then a part, Oklahoma, where he had made his home until called by death. The funeral services were held at the old Wildwood church June 21st. Rev. Williams preaching the sermon and the remains were laid to rest by those of his wife in the cemetery there ( the old Wildwood cemetery).

The deceased was a kind, loving and generous father, an upright, honorable man and citizen and a helpful and good friend and neighbor and his death is deeply mourned by all.

“Be ye also ready for ye know not when the Son of Man cometh. In the midst of life ye are in death.” A Friend.

Notes: Sylvester Wimer was married first to Lillie Sturgeon, one child, Sylva, they divorced abt. 1914 and then Sylvester married Margaret Cecil Ruth Babb (about 15 yrs old) and had two more children, Clara and Virginia. Sylvester disappeared abt. 28 Sept 1919 at Groom, Carson county, Texas and was never seen again.

Our family suspected that Charlie Babb had killed Sylvester but there was no body or proof. Charles took his sister and her children back to Enid to their parents. The children were raised by the grandparents. Margaret gave birth to a son, Max Sylvester Wimer, on 1 April 1920 at Enid (?) Margaret disappeared and was found years later living as Ruth Dumas in Harvey, Louisanna. Sylvester’s body has never been found.
