Orion Cemetery


Chester – The funeral for Mildred Irene Branstetter, 84, will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Orion Baptist Church. The Reverends Michael Brien and Charles Newton will officiate. Burial will follow in Orion Cemetery. Arrangements are by Redinger Funeral Home, Seiling.

She was born September 17, 1917 in Hollyy to Ira D. And Fannie Myrtle Gibson Overstreet and died Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Seiling Municipal Hospital.

She attended Chicago country schools, graduating from Jet High School in 1936.

She married Ivan Emory Painton July 6, 1936 in Enid. They made their home at Orion where they farmed, ranched and raised cotton. In 1943, they bought the Orion Store, operating it until 1979. They also operated a laundry and rock shop. They had three daughters.

She later married Raymond "J. R." Branstetter May 2, 1987 at Orion Baptist Church. They made their home in Chester, where she lived until her death.

She was a member of Orion Baptist Church where she lead singing for 50 years. She later became a member of Friends Church in Seiling, Seiling Music Lovers Club, V. F. W. Auxiliary, Chester Historical Society and Chester community Club.

Surviving are her husband, J. R. of the home; three daughters, Dian Nichols of Tawas City, Michigan, Elaine Sander of Seiling, and Janice Louthann of Weatherford; two step – sons, Gary Branstetter of Cushing, and Ronald Branstetter of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Pauline Hughes of Leesburg, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven step – grandchildren; 10 great – grandchildren; and eight step – great – grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers.
